Optical time division multiplexer on silicon chip.

In this work, we experimentally demonstrate a novel broadband optical time division multiplexer (OTDM) on a silicon chip. The fabricated devices generate 20 Gb/s and 40 Gb/s signals starting from a 5 Gb/s input signal. The proposed design has a small footprint of 1mm x 1mm. The system is inherently broadband with a bandwidth of over 100nm making it suitable for high-speed optical networks on chip.

Monolithic 160 Gbit/s optical time-division multiplexer.

We present the design and experimental characterization of a monolithic optical time-division multiplexer (MUX) for 160 Gbit/s operation based on periodically poled lithium niobate (PPLN) waveguides. Its key figures of merit agree well with theoretical predictions and meet or exceed those of a previously demonstrated PPLN-planar-light-wave-circuit hybrid MUX. The monolithic design has a simpler...

Silicon-based Low-Power Reconfigurable Optical Add-Drop Multiplexer (ROADM)

We demonstrate a 1×4 coarse wavelength division-multiplexing (CWDM) planar concave grating multiplexer/demultiplexer and its application in re-configurable optical add/drop multiplexer (ROADM) system in silicon-on-insulator substrate. The wavelengths of the demonstrated concave grating multiplexer align well with the ITU-T standard. We demonstrate a prototype of ROADM comprising two such concav...

A Novel Fine Tunable Optical Add/Drop Multiplexer

We propose a novel tunable optical add/drop multiplexer, based on Asymmetric Bragg Coupler and the liquid crystal as the active layer. Such device provides the features of small size, wide tuning range, narrow channel bandwidth, low electric power, high tuning speed, and simple control mechanisms. The transmission bandwidth is about 32.5GHz and the tunable range is about 250GHz.
